Is WWE bringing back the European title?
There is a lot of speculation among fans that WWE is planning to bring back the European Title for Lana and Rusev, who is the current WWE United States Champion. This weekend, Rusev’s manager Lana posted an interesting photo on her official Instagram account, and then quickly deleted it. The picture is of the European Championship, which was retired back in 2002.
Some even speculated that this is just a left over image taken from an old photo shoot the WWE conducted, placing classic titles on current roster members. But the image posted by Lana features the new WWE logo and she posted it with a “#RAW” hashtag.
In 2002, Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy competed in a ladder match on an episode of WWE RAW for the European Title. Jeff was the European Champion and Rob Van Dam was the Intercontinental Champion. The ladder match took place to unify the titles. As we know by now, RVD won and the European Title was retired from WWE programming.
The European title was previously held by many WWE Superstars including Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, X-Pac and William Regal.
