WWE News: Jerry Lawler reveals he suffered a stroke two weeks before WrestleMania 34
What's the story?
WWE Hall of Famer and legendary announcer Jerry "The King" Lawler made a shocking revelation on the latest episode of his podcast Dinner with The King.
Lawler revealed that he suffered from a serious stroke on March 21st, less than three weeks before hosting the WWE Hall of Fame 2018 induction ceremony, and how he was able to make a miraculous recovery.
In case you didn’t know…
Lawler is mostly known in WWE for being the voice of Raw for almost two decades, especially for his commentary work with another WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross.
Before turning to the commentary role, Lawler was known for being one of the best heels in the business, especially in his home territory of Memphis, Tennessee.
Since the last few years, The King has been making sporadic appearances for the WWE. Most recently, Lawler hosted the WWE Hall of Fame 2018 induction ceremony, two nights before WrestleMania.
The heart of the matter
On the latest episode of 'Dinner With The King', Lawler revealed how he suffered a medical emergency just two weeks before 'Mania.
The King revealed that he was with his fiancee Lauryn at their home on March 21st when he started having a stroke.
Lauryn was able to get him to get him to the nearest medical facility, where the doctors revealed that Jerry had suffered a stroke caused by a brain haemorrhage.
"..(Lauryn) looked at me and we made eye contact and she said, 'Oh my God Jerry, go look in the mirror'. So I walk to the bathroom and look in the mirror and the whole right side of my mouth is drooping, all the way down to my chin. At that point I looked at Lauryn and.. I couldn't even speak, and she screamed, 'Oh my God, you're having a stroke.'"
The King went on to reveal that only a few personnel including Vince McMahon, Triple H and Kevin Dunn knew about his ordeal. Lawler was not able to speak for three days after his stroke.
Miraculously, Lawler was able to recover and get back to a 100% and was able to make appearances including the HOF induction ceremony and Wrestlecon during the WrestleMania weekend successfully.
What's next?
As usual, The King did a great job of hosting the Hall of Fame 2018 induction ceremony. His next WWE appearance has not been announced.
