Cena finally admitted that Conor McGregor would "probably" beat him in a WWE match

What's the story?

Conor McGregor has been linked to an appearance on WWE TV over the past few years and it seems that he has had a lot to say about John Cena, a star who has made it obvious that he wants a match with the MMA star in the future.

In case you didn't know...

McGregor is a huge wrestling fan and WWE were in talks with the star last year to bring him to WrestleMania but it seems that these talks have since cooled off and it's now unlikely that he will be in attendance on Sunday night.

McGregor did famously troll the WWE roster back in 2016, which seemingly gained him a lot of heat within WWE since a number of stars were offended by the fact that McGregor publically stated that he could beat anyone who was part of the company.

There has been speculation over the past few years that the UFC Lightweight Champion was going to make the transition over to WWE, following in the footsteps of Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar.

The heart of the matter

McGregor and former WWE Champion Cena have had a number of back and forths over the past few years but the subject of the UFC star making the jump over to WWE was raised in a Cena's recent interview with Viceland's Desus & Mero.

Cena admitted that McGregor would "probably" beat him in the ring, if the duo had a wrestling match, but was still excited at the prospect of the man who was unable to defeat Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match last year, making the switch over to WWE, if only for one match.

What's next?

Back in February, it was reported that McGregor was still open to joining WWE, so it seems that this could still happen in the near future.

Author's take

There has been a buzz around McGregor for a long time now and it wouldn't be believable that Cena would be able to defeat him in a real fight after his recent exploits.

A match between the duo would be fantastic since both men like to talk so even if the UFC star didn't make the switch over successfully, the build-up to the match would definitely be worth watching.
