John Cena to face WWE legend in the same building where he received a hostile welcome? Exploring potential full circle moment after 18 years
Next year will mark the last time we see John Cena as a wrestler in WWE. Having announced his retirement tour at Money in the Bank 2024, The Leader of the Cenation has promised fans a whole year of his services, one last time. With that in mind, the 47-year-old could take the fans down an avenue of nostalgia, as he could face a WWE legend in the same building where he received a hostile welcome 18 years ago.
The individual being discussed here is Rob Van Dam, and the location is the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom. This was where John Cena experienced a moment of rejection during One Night Stand 2006, as he was booed by the fans in attendance. Despite Cena's popularity at the time, he encountered an unexpected setback, but he could potentially turn back the clock and revisit this moment in 2025.
Recently, rumors were suggesting that WWE tried to book the Hammerstein Ballroom for an NXT event. However, they were unfortunately blocked by Tony Khan and AEW. Nevertheless, there is no reason why Triple H and co. would not try again in the future, especially with John Cena's retirement tour on the horizon.
It would be a special moment. One that would forever be engraved in the minds of Cena and all those watching. One last match against Rob Van Dam and one last match in the Hammerstein Ballroom, the place he was ever treated like a heel. It practically writes itself. But, at this point, it is nothing more than speculation.
WWE has confirmed that John Cena will be appearing at Elimination Chamber 2025
Whether John Cena appears in the Hammerstein Ballroom one last time remains to be seen. However, he is locked in for a couple of major events in 2025. This includes an appearance in Toronto, Canada, where he will take part in his last-ever Elimination Chamber PLE.
WWE recently confirmed that Cena will be at Elimination Chamber 2025. While it has not been confirmed in what capacity, there is hope that he will have a match at the event. It would be incredible, especially if he were to take part in the actual Elimination Chamber Match.
Fortunately, Elimination Chamber, as mentioned earlier, will not be his only appearance in 2025. Since it will be his retirement tour, Cena plans on having his last-ever everything. That means he would be a part of Royal Rumble 2025, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and, of course, WrestleMania. It is certain to be an amazing ride.
