John Cena removed from WWE Australian tour, Reigns to replace him
WWE has opted to remove John Cena from its upcoming three-day tour of Australia and will replace him with Roman Reigns.
The newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion was advertised for the early-August show but has been pulled out mainly for movie filming reasons. Also, the WWE wants him to be fully fit for the big SummerSlam main event match against Brock Lesnar.
Cena, who is 37 now, maybe at that point of his career where too much of wrestling may break his body down. And the WWE as a precautionary measure want him to be at his best when he faces the Beast at the summer pay-per-view.
However, replacing him with Reigns also gives the company a chance to test Reigns’ star power in the business. It is no secret that Reigns has been one of the top dogs in the current WWE roster and since the Shield broke up, he has been given a major individual push by the creative team. Even though he is a few steps behind when it comes to Cena’s popularity, WWE can actually see if the 29-year-old can carry the responsibility of captaining a main event on his broad shoulders.
The Wyatt Family, Sheamus, Cesaro, Rob Van Dam, The Miz and Kane are also expected to join Reigns as WWE tours through the cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Perth before returning back to the United States for an the August 11th episode of Monday Night Raw.
