John Cena to retire after failing to achieve his final goal in WWE? It's not his 17th world championship!

In just a few days, John Cena will kick off his retirement tour in WWE. The Cenation Leader will begin his final run possibly on the January 6, 2025 edition of RAW Netflix. Further, fans will see him compete at nearly every Premium Live Event. Amid this, there is a chance that John Cena could retire after failing to achieve his final goal of winning the Intercontinental Championship.

The 16-time world champion is incredibly popular among fans, but he has yet to become a Grand Slam Champion, as he has never won the IC Title. Fans are hoping Cena will become a 17-time world champion during his retirement tour next year. It’s possible that Triple H could fulfill this wish by making him World Champion early in 2025.

However, around WWE SummerSlam 2025, Cena might drop the Championship and pursue the IC Title in his final days as a wrestler. Currently, the IC Champion is Bron Breakker, and a match between Cena and Breakker is something fans are eager to see. If Cena goes after the mid-card title, it’s possible that he could fail in his pursuit and instead choose to put over the IC Champion. This scenario seems likely, especially if Breakker is still the champion at that time in WWE.

Fans recently saw how Cena put over Solo Sikoa by suffering a brutal loss to him at Crown Jewel. Therefore, during his retirement tour, Cena may accomplish his 17th world title reign but fail to become a Grand Slam Champion, choosing instead to put over the IC Champion rather than dethrone him.

CM Punk believes that John Cena could face Gunther in his final retirement tour from WWE

During one of his previous interviews, CM Punk asserted that there is a possibility of John Cena clashing with Gunther during his retirement tour. The Best in the World made this proclamation when he discussed how Cena might pass the torch to a young star before hanging up his boots, mentioning Gunther as a potential candidate.

A match between Cena and The Ring General is something fans have been eager to see, especially with the Imperium leader currently holding the World Championship.

If Cena wins his 17th world title by dethroning Gunther, it could be a dream moment for the WWE Universe.
