WWE Rumors: John Cena to finally win the Intercontinental Championship at Royal Rumble?

Cena might capture his maiden Intercontinental Championship at Royal Rumble.

John Cena has been the face that runs the place for over a decade now. From being a world champion to winning the Money In The Bank and being a 2-time Royal Rumble winner, Cena has done it all. The only accolade for Cena to achieve in his profound career is winning the elusive Intercontinental Championship.

According to a report from Forbes, Cena won’t be included in the world title picture right away after his much-anticipated return. Before dealing with the record breaking 16th World title, WWE might hand him an Intercontinental Championship reign which will begin at the Royal Rumble.

The plan is to Cena deal with his unfinished business with the Intercontinental Championship before handing him the WWE Championship, The Intercontinental title reign will play as a precursor to the feud that will happen for the world title as time progresses.

The timing of the feud could not be any better as the current Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, is currently at his peak with his stellar heel run. The prospect of a natural face such as Cena facing off against The Miz is definitely a sight to behold. This program might also give them a chance to erase the demons of Wrestlemania 27 where their match received several negative feedbacks.

The rumoured feud for the Intercontinental title is scheduled to commence right after Cena’s return which will eventually lead to a match at the Royal Rumble. WWE may weigh in the factor that Cena is yet to win the title to hype up the clash.

Cena holding the Intercontinental Championship will elevate the title even further. With Ziggler moving on to the world title picture yet again, Cena is the perfect replacement to fill in. The involvement of Cena in the Intercontinental title picture will add freshness to the title picture as Smackdown Live! has had several long-running feuds.

With Cena’s increasing list of achievements outside the WWE, the company will look to make maximum use of Cena before he decides to call it a day. Cena’s plans for his return are unknown as of now but Cena’s dispute with McMahon could play spoilsport.

Several possibilities are considered in the case of Cena’s Wrestlemania plans which is rumoured, to begin with, a victory at Royal Rumble and then proceed to face AJ Styles or “The Phenom” to conquer the elusive moment.

The Intercontinental Title on Cena’s shoulder will add to his legacy and truly justify him as the face that runs the place as he heads into the twilight of his career.
