Kane's future at WWE: Is unleashing the 'Big Red Monster' again good for business?

Kane

Kane – arguably one of the biggest superstars the WWE has ever produced ( at over 7 feet, you have to say literally). A wrestler who single-handedly dominated the squared circle for over a decade. A monster who would pretty much destroyed anything and everything that stood in his way and most importantly, a future Hall of Famer.

Currently, despite all these anecdotes, Kane has failed to find a footing in the WWE. He was initially dubbed the ‘big red monster’ to instill fear into the hearts of opponents and fans, alike. He is now however called ‘corporate Kane’ a figure that is tucked nicely into a suit and made a puppet in the hands of the Authority.

Ever since he infamously removed the mask, which certainly looked like a bad decision at the time, Kane has had a roller coaster ride in the WWE. From competing in title matches and grudge matches, he went on to involve himself in various love triangles and rivalries with superstars who’s ages he outlived with his legacy itself.

From the pre-nup Lita saga with Matt Hardy and the post-nup saga that concluded with Gene Snitsky to the AJ Lee love triangle with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, Kane has endured a clueless tenure in the WWE for quite some time now.

It is pretty unclear what Triple H and the script writers exactly have in mind with respect to Kane. But if you have seen the recent episode of RAW, you will see another twist to the ‘how to tarnish a superstar’s reputation in less than half a decade’ plot.

Kane was seen backstage apologizing to Stephanie McMahon for some ‘minor misjudgement’ on his part and how he has not lived up to her expectations of late . Stephanie, being the annoying boss that she is taunts him into becoming the monster that he once was ( think attitude era ). Something triggers the ‘now usually calm’ Kane and he picks up his coveted mask with the attached tresses and promises to decimate the WWE world heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan and send him to the depths of hell.

We have to now assume that Kane will be making future appearances in the WWE with the mask on minus the tuxedo. He will probably interfere in Daniel Bryan’s matches and make his former tag team partner’s life a living hell. But for how long will this story hold good is the question. With Evolution on the path of the Shield and John Cena turning his attention towards Bray Wyatt, the WWE has limited options when it comes to finding a challenger for the title.

Brock Lesnar seems the obvious choice as he had earlier voiced out his opinion ( of course, through Paul Heymam ) to challenge for the title. Kane is merely going to be a pawn on behalf of the authority that will make sporadic appearances attacking Bryan and leaving the unfinished prey for the challenger to feast on.

Once the rivalry heats up, Kane’s job is all but done. He will probably go back to occupying time on the air just like he did at Wrestlemania with a lackluster 3-man tag team match against The Shield.

It certainly is bad enough for business putting Kane through so many character switches in such a short span of time. The masked Kane or the monster character has lost its sheen and fans view it as a mere ridicule of a character that once engulfed the WWE with fear.

On the other side, there were rumors of him pursuing a political career. With a vocabulary like that, it would not be hard to entice voters into supporting him.

So, would you want to see the monster unleashed ‘again’?
