Kevin Owens reveals why he wants to be exactly like Roman Reigns and his former rival
Kevin Owens has been in an interesting place creatively. Over the past year or so, he hasn't been in any significant storyline except once or twice and the direction of his character has waved from one end to the other.
However, he's hopeful for it to get better and that's something he "obsesses" about every day, confessing to Corey Graves on the After The Bell podcast. He also revealed that he hopes to become a "polarizing" figure like John Cena and Roman Reigns because he thinks the mixed reactions they used to get created an incredible atmosphere. He told Graves (H/T WrestlingInc)
"Roman for a long time had the same kind of vibe going, so I've always strived for that kind of reaction. Of course, if a reaction is overwhelmingly positive, that's great. Or if you get a lot of heat, that's great too," Owens said. "But I think being in the middle isn't a bad thing, I actually think it's really great. Very few people will get to the point where they're as admired as they are despised."
He reiterated that "polarizing" is what he's striving for the most:
"Polarizing - that is what I strive for. Polarizing is a very special thing to be in our industry, I think. The people that can claim to be legitimately polarizing are made for life because nobody will ever not care one way or another, and that's great."
He said that the best part about these reactions is how one group of fans will always try to outdo the other and be as loud as possible, creating a mind-blowing atmosphere. However, it's seemingly a status only a few can reach and it seems to be reserved for babyfaces who are getting main event pushes but are rejected by fans.
Since Reigns returned in 2019, he has been anything but polarizing. He seems to have finally earned the respect he deserved from the WWE Universe who now cheer him weekly.
