Konnan talks WWE holding a grudge against him, Eddie Guerrero recommending him to Triple H
I recently spoke to Konnan, who will be a part of WaleMania on Thursday, March 26th at Taste Nightclub in Santa Clara, CA (tickets) during WrestleMania week. The full interview will be posted on Wrestling Inc. early next week. At WaleMania, Konnan will be making his first public U.S. appearance with his close friend Rey Mysterio since both men worked together in WCW. Mysterio will be at WaleMania and will participate in a live MLW Radio with Konnan and Court Bauer.
During our interview, Konnan talked about his only WWE run in 1992. Konnan debuted for the company as Max Moon, who was a character from outer space with a $13,000 costume. After only a few appearances, Konnan left the company to work in Mexico, where his popularity was skyrocketing. The Max Moon character was then given to Paul Diamond for a short period until it was ultimately dropped. Konnan felt that WWE held a grudge over him leaving the company and abandoning the gimmick.
"They [WWE] never got over it," Konnan said. "There were a lot of people there that were very envious of the fact I only got flown in for TV tapings, they brought in Mexican wrestlers to work with me. I wasn't on the road, I was getting special treatment. There were a lot of people hating on the gimmick, and it didn't help that I got tired of lugging the Max Mon costume around. I'd have to lug around 8 boxes and take two taxis. It was just a pain in the ass. Meanwhile I was blowing up in Mexico, I had just done a soap opera, so I didn't show up to work. Then they gave it to Paul Diamond.
"I'm sure they didn't like that because when Eddie [Guerrero] first came in he went to Triple H and said 'you should bring Konnan over, we could do good (stuff) with him.' Triple H came back and asked Eddie if I had heat with Vince, and I said I think so because of the outfit. Bruce 'The b---h' Prichard always treated me bad too, so he might have had something to do with that."
Make sure to check back next week for the full interview with Konnan. Also, you can purchase tickets for WaleMania at WaleMania.com.
