Lio Rush retains the Cruiserweight Championship, earns the first point for NXT
One of the Kickoff matches for tonight's WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view featured Lio Rush facing RAW's Akira Tozawa and SmackDown's Kalisto in a triple threat match for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
After SmackDown got the first point by winning the tag team battle royale, this was a must-win match for both RAW and NXT. Expectedly, the three athletes delivered a hard-hitting matchup filled with back-and-forth action. In the end, Kalisto took out Akira Tozawa with the Salida Del Sol but Lio Rush immediately pinned the Lucha House Party member with The Final Hour.
With the NXT Cruiserweight Champion retaining his title, the Black-and-Gold brand has one point on the scorecard, similar to SmackDown.
WWE Survivor Series 2019
While the other matches on the card were announced weeks prior, WWE only confirmed the NXT Cruiserweight Championship bout earlier today. Nonetheless, Lio Rush, Tozawa and Kalisto delivered a pretty good match that set the pace for the main show.
Survivor Series is the first-ever event to feature NXT, RAW and SmackDown battle each other in head-to-head competition to establish brand superiority. Rush's win gave NXT their first point while the victory of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Rodde earned a point for SmackDown.
How will RAW bounce back? We hope to get the answers very soon.
