Lucha Underground News: Lucha Underground approved for fourth season
What’s the story?
Lucha Underground made the announcement that they will come back for a fourth season. They made the announcement on social media, and included a trailer with Johnny Mundo as the focus.
In case you didn’t know...
Lucha Underground began airing in October 2014 and currently have three seasons and over 100 episodes. Many fans believed that season three would be the final season due to Lucha Underground allegedly having problems securing funds.
Lucha Underground is considered by many fans to be a fantastic wrestling program and the promotion managed to land a deal with Netflix to show the first two seasons of the show.
The heart of the matter
Johnny Mundo spent most of the trailer reflecting on his career in Lucha Underground and claimed that season four would lead to him “taking back what’s his.”
Mundo has accomplished all there is to accomplish in Lucha Underground as he has captured the Trios Championship, the Gift of the Gods Championship and the Lucha Underground Championship.
His most recent championship victory occurred back in April 2016, when he cashed in his Gift of the Gods Championship on Sexy Star to win the Lucha Underground Championship.
Mundo lost the title to Prince Puma, while Puma lost the title to Pentagón Dark who has currently held the title for more than 500 days.
With Puma no longer wrestling for Lucha Underground, Mundo “taking back what’s his” could be a reference to recapturing the Lucha Underground Championship, but that is pure speculation.
What’s next?
The trailer said that the fourth season of Lucha Underground would air next year in 2018, but that doesn’t specify the date for a return.
If their previous history is any indicator, then season four may end up airing months after the TV tapings have concluded, which could be anywhere from one to six months.
