Major error in title match, huge upset - 4 mistakes WWE made at Clash at the Castle 2024
Clash at the Castle 2024 took over Scotland last night and while there was a major title change, it wasn't the one that the WWE Universe was looking for. The night ended in a way not many fans expected it to.
Many fans came away from the show feeling upset and dejected following the main event, but there are a number of other mistakes that were made throughout the show.
The following list looks at just four mistakes WWE made at Clash at the Castle 2024.
#4. This was the perfect time for Otis to turn on Chad Gable
There were not many stand-out moments last night, but one major point of the show was when Otis walked away from Chad Gable and ended up costing him the match. Obviously, Otis has been loyal to Gable throughout his recent heel turn but after he hit Maxxine Dupri accidentally at Clash at the Castle, it seems that he had enough.
Otis walked away and cost Gable the match, but he should have made more of a point of it since it's now unclear if The Alpha Academy is still together or if he has walked away. Now, the fans will have to wait for the answers on WWE RAW.
#3. No Broken Dreams for Drew McIntyre
Many fans pushed for Drew McIntyre to be handed his original entrance theme back in his home country as a way to celebrate his return, but when he came out to his regular theme again, it appeared to confirm to many that he wasn't winning the championship.
McIntyre's fans were obviously heartbroken, but McIntyre was given a special Scottish entrance and it was clear that the moment meant everything to him, even if the result wasn't what he had hoped for.
#2. Where were The OC?
There were several issues in the Cody Rhodes match against AJ Styles. Not only did Styles quit after he was threatened with a set of steel steps, which he was later hit with anyway, but where was The OC?
It was made clear that they made the trip to Scotland because they appeared on WWE SmackDown with Styles, but for some reason, even though there was no disqualification and interference was used on Cody Rhodes' behalf, Styles didn't decide to call on his friends and instead took the clean loss.
#1. Drew McIntyre lost in his hometown at WWE Clash at the Castle
It is usually the WWE curse, that if you wrestle in your hometown, you're usually going to lose. That being said, there was a certain expectation that came with Drew McIntyre's return to Scotland and it was clear that the arrival of CM Punk took the wind out of his sails.
In truth, it's unknown what is planned for McIntyre and Punk and if the world championship could have been a part of that, but what is known is that this is the second time McIntyre has lost because of interference at a Clash at the Castle PLE.
