Major SmackDown announcement & more - 3 signs BOTH Roman Reigns and The Rock will return at WWE SummerSlam 2024

SummerSlam 2024 is just hours away and WWE's biggest names are ready to prove their mettle. The card for The Biggest Party of The Summer features seven blockbuster matches, six of which are for a championship. The only non-title bout is an incredibly personal clash between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre with Seth Rollins being the Special Guest Referee.

In the build-up to SummerSlam 2024, the rumor mill has been dominated by speculation over what surprises lie in wait. Roman Reigns' potential return, in particular, has been subject to heavy speculation given that Solo Sikoa takes on the man who dethroned him, Cody Rhodes. Roman's may not be the only big return of the night, though, with certain signs pointing to The Rock also appearing at the event.

As SummerSlam draws nearer by the second, below are three signs that both Roman and The Rock could return at SummerSlam 2024.

#3. The Rock has reportedly wrapped filming on his latest Hollywood project

Since The Rock last appeared in WWE on the fallout episode of RAW after WrestleMania XL, he has been typically busy in Hollywood. After The Show of Shows, The Great One reportedly went straight to voice acting for the upcoming movie Moana 2 before commencing filming for The Smashing Machine, a biographical movie based on UFC legend Mark Kerr.

Just days before SummerSlam 2024, reports filtered in suggesting The Brahma Bull had wrapped his duties on the film. If this is to be believed, then the former WWE Champion could return opposite Roman Reigns, whose own comeback is highly anticipated and expected. With The Final Boss seemingly having a bit of "free time" on his hands in his main career, a double return seems more likely than ever.

#2. WWE announcing Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 could point to The Rock and Roman Reigns both returning at SummerSlam

Just two days before WWE SummerSlam 2024, the Stamford-based promotion announced on social media that the Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event would be held in Vancouver in November of this year. More interestingly, despite some fan outcry for the return of traditional brand warfare, it was confirmed that WarGames would be the theme for the third year in a row.

This news got fans of The Bloodline really excited, given that their favorite storyline currently has the strongest case to take up the Men's WarGames Match spot. The majority of the audience expects Roman Reigns to return at SummerSlam and thereafter reunite with the original Bloodline to take on Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu. The Rock is also expected to play a part if available as Reigns' antagonist.

#1. The "Bloodline Rules" stipulation to the Undisputed WWE Title match sets the stage for both The Rock and Roman Reigns to interfere at SummerSlam 2024

The go-home episode of SmackDown before SummerSlam 2024 saw Cody Rhodes come face-to-face with Solo Sikoa. The American Nightmare and the new Tribal Chief kicked off the show with a fiery war of words, setting the stage for their Undisputed WWE Championship match at Cleveland Browns Stadium. During this promo battle, Sikoa challenged Rhodes to a "Bloodline Rules" match, to which the champion agreed.

Given the amount of interference seen in the last match to be contested under the "Bloodline Rules" match, it is a safe bet to expect multiple interferences in the bout. These could be from Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, the returning Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, Jimmy Uso, or even potentially debuting family members like Hikuleo or Zilla Fatu.

However, given that it will be the main event of SummerSlam in front of more than 50,000 fans, expectations will be high. It would not be unreasonable to think that not only will Roman Reigns make his return, but so will The Rock.
