More exclusive news on Rey Mysterio's WWE departure, Mysterio's fan Q&A, WaleMania
As noted earlier, Rey Mysterio is no longer under contract with WWE. Despite WWE officially announcing Mysterio's departure last Thursday, his last day with the company was technically February 27th.
WWE higher-ups were uneasy with backlash and concerned over how shareholders would take his departure, so they have kept it as quiet as possible. Mysterio was a major merchandise seller and and moved ratings with the Latin and under 13 demo, and losing him creates a concern as they have no one ready to replace him in either category. According to a source, there are no plans for WWE.com to even acknowledge his departure.
As noted earlier, there will be a party and Q&A with Mysterio during WrestleMania week called WaleMania on Thursday night, March 26th at Taste Nightclub at 2909 Lakeside Drive in Santa Clara, CA. Mysterio will speak candidly with his best friend Konnan and former WWE Creative Executive Court Bauer and MSL of MLW Radio about his career. Following the live interview will be a Q&A with the audience. After the interview will be the after party, which will feature a special performance by Grammy-nominated Wale. I am told that Wale will also provide a sneak peek of his highly anticipated new album, The Album About Nothing. Tickets start at $20 and are on sale now at WaleMania.com and TheTicketGroup.com.
