New alliance with Cody Rhodes, upsetting breakup? - 4 directions for DIY after unfortunate WWE SmackDown loss amidst promising push

WWE Friday Night SmackDown for this week is now over, and this time around, the show featured two big championship matches. In fact, both title bouts were in the tag team division.

First, The Unholy Union defended the Women's Tag Team Championship against Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair in a match with a controversial ending. Then, the main event featured DIY taking on The Bloodline's Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga.

DIY won the tag team titles in what was effectively a handful of weeks ago, but the pair shockingly lost them on SmackDown tonight. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the interference from Solo Sikoa and Tonga Loa was too much for Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa to take.

Now that DIY has lost its coveted tag team titles, its future has become uncertain. This article will examine a handful of directions for Johnny Wrestling and The Blackheart, which could even include the pair ending their alliance moving forward.

#4. They can feud with The Bloodline to regain the WWE Tag Team Titles

DIY won the WWE Tag Team Titles on July 5, 2024. This was the pre-Money in the Bank edition of Friday Night SmackDown, which took place in the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. That venue was personal to Gargano and Ciampa.

The pair defeated A-Town Down Under's Austin Theory and Grayson Waller to win the gold. The following week, they defeated the duo again to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. A few weeks later, DIY was no longer champions, which surely won't sit well with the talented duo.

As a result, DIY may start chasing The Bloodline in an attempt to regain the belts. If Solo Sikoa and Tonga Loa hadn't been there, DIY might have won. If the two can somehow take care of the interference in the future, they may win their titles back.

#3. DIY could help Cody Rhodes in the main event of SummerSlam

Speaking of Solo Sikoa, the new Tribal Chief has a huge night ahead of him. Later tonight, Sikoa will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. While not yet confirmed, this bout will likely be the night's main event.

Like the DIY match on SmackDown, The Bloodline will indeed interfere at SummerSlam. This is especially true now that the Undisputed WWE Championship bout will be contested under Bloodline Rules. That means everything is allowed, and interference will be aplenty.

That could also be where DIY fits in next. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are likely upset after losing their titles and may stop The Bloodline from using the same cheap tactics at SummerSlam. The pair may help Cody Rhodes fight off the group, ultimately forming a union with the world champion that could keep The Bloodline at bay.

#2. They could feud with Legado Del Fantasma

The Bloodline isn't the only stable currently on WWE SmackDown. Legado Del Fantasma is another faction of the brand, and Santos Escobar leads it. The Emperor of Lucha Libre is joined by Elektra Lopez, Angel, and Berto.

While the group hasn't had much momentum lately, things picked up on WWE SmackDown. Santos went one-on-one with Apollo Crews, and thanks to interference from the entire group, Escobar won the bout.

A feud with DIY could be possible, with the stable looking to gain momentum. If Berto and Angel defeat Gargano and Ciampa, they'll likely become contenders for the tag team gold. Alternatively, DIY beating other teams could lead them back to title contention.

#1. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa might split up

The final option on this list is one that many WWE fans would not want to witness: there is a chance that the tag team of DIY could be no more after this loss. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa may split up.

This wouldn't be the first time the pair went their separate ways. They had a very public and violent split while on NXT. However, the former WWE Tag Team Champions were made up and reunited, and fans love to see them together. After their loss, however, that reunion may be over.

This would be upsetting, as the two deserve a better run as champions on the main roster. Still, it is possible nonetheless. Now that they've reached the top of the mountain as a team and then fell from grace, they may split up and go solo.
