WWE News: New title matches announced for Payback

Will AJ Reign?

The WWE have seen a revamp since Wrestlemania. The likes of AJ Styles, Cesaro, Owens have been pushed into the limelight with stars such as Cena and Orton missing. Vince McMahon has also allowed Shane McMahon to run RAW, albeit in kayfabe.

The RAW after Mania had some very good moments with a lot of ‘snarky’ fans pleased with some of the decisions. A Fatal Four Way took place between Styles, Owens, Jericho and Cesaro where Styles rose as the victor to challenge Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

This RAW helped to further the storyline for the top two titles that is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the Intercontinental Championship. Sami Zayn who missed out the Fatal Four Way due Owens’ attack backstage was given a match against AJ Styles, the No.1 contender.

If Samy won, he would be added to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Payback, essentially making it a Triple Threat match. But AJ Styles prevailed over a Samy Zayn onslaught to keep him out of his title match against Roman Reigns at Payback.

Also this week, Owens and Cesaro went head to head for a shot at the Intercontinental Title. Cesaro won the match and became the No.1 Contender for the IC Championship. Cesaro will face The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship at Payback. More matches are said to be added on the card in the upcoming weeks.
