10-time WWE Champion dethroning Cody Rhodes before facing John Cena is possible, says veteran

Cody Rhodes has been the Undisputed WWE Champion since WrestleMania XL. However, wrestling veteran Greg Gagne thinks The American Nightmare could drop the title to a top superstar before the latter squares off against John Cena.

The superstar in question is Randy Orton. He is currently on good terms with Rhodes. However, many expect The Viper to turn on The American Nightmare. Meanwhile, John Cena announced at Money in the Bank that he is retiring from in-ring competition by the end of 2025.

On the Straight Talk with The Boss podcast, Greg Gagne suggested a possible scenario involving the three superstars and the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The 75-year-old proposed that Orton win the championship from Rhodes, which would be his 11th WWE Championship and 15th world title, before squaring off against The Cenation Leader during the latter's retirement tour.

"I don't think they can have John win the title. You know, you made a good point that then he'd have the record. But Randy Orton is right near the record too. So, I would see Orton maybe knock off Cody, and then he's got it and John ties it when he gets Orton," Gagne said. [12:30 - 12:55]

Ex-WWE host wants to see Randy Orton vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 41

Former WWE host Matt Camp also discussed John Cena's potential opponents in his final run on his The Wrestling Matt podcast. Although he claimed that Cena's previous rivalry with Randy Orton did not meet expectations, he believes the two superstars going head-to-head at this stage of their careers would be different.

Camp even suggested that The Viper and The Cenation Leader square off at WrestleMania 41 next year.

"I don't know if this is a popular opinion or not, but the Orton-Cena stuff is not great. Like, they didn't have that many good matches, unfortunately. I never thought they got the most out of those feuds for whatever reason. I'm not quite sure why. Nothing was really, like, the fact that they never had a 'Mania match is wild. They never had a one-on-one WrestleMania match. You do that now though, like, I hope we get Cena and Orton at 'Mania next year," he said.

Orton and Cena last went head-to-head in 2017. The match ended in victory for the 16-time World Champion. It would be interesting to see if the two would cross paths again and whether The Viper would win his 15th world title before fighting The Cenation Leader one more time.
