2-time Hall of Famer was willing to be fired from WWE for refusing major storyline with Edge

A WWE legend recently revealed how he refused a major angle with former world champion Edge back in the day, which led to some changes to their storyline. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer was willing to get fired from the company rather than do the angle.

In an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Booker T. opened up about his WrestleMania 18 match with Edge. It was initially meant to be a Hair vs. Hair Match

The 59-year-old WWE legend explained that he was unwilling to trim off his locks, even if he got fired for turning the offer down. As it turns out, Edge also didn't want to cut his hair, so the company just changed the storyline. The duo eventually locked horns at The Show of Shows for an opportunity to endorse a Japanese shampoo company. Edge eventually emerged victorious on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

"It was one of those things where we had to do something because the match actually was [sic] supposed to be a hair match. It was supposed to be that I cut my hair or Edge was gonna cut his hair. That was what they [WWE] approached us with at first. At least they approached me with that. I don't know if they approached Edge with that, but they approached me with it. The first thing I said was, 'Is Edge cutting his hair? Because I'm not cutting mine,'" Booker said. [H/T: chrisvanvliet.com]

The five-time WCW World Champion added:

"I just grew out my dreads, and I really had become attached to them. I think they could have fired me before I cut my hair. I wouldn't want to cut my hair at that time for anything. They couldn't give me a big enough payoff to cut my hair at that time. They couldn't have just told me to do it, so they squashed it, and then they came up with this idea of a shampoo commercial because Edge wouldn't cut his hair."

Edge couldn't perfect a popular WWE move

During his match with Booker T. at WrestleMania 18, Edge performed the Spinaroonie before hitting the Edgecution for the victory. However, Adam Copeland failed to perfect it despite practicing with the two-time WWE Hall of Famer.

"He [Edge] worked on it all day in the arena. He had strawberries on his elbows and on his knees, but he still couldn't get it. But he tried so hard. But for me, just working in his hometown, like you say, that's what I get out of it. That’s what I remember," Booker said. [H/T: chrisvanvliet.com]

It would take a few more years before Edge and Booker T. finally managed to break into the main event scene. The Rated-R Superstar's break came after he won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2005, while Booker T. got over after becoming the King of the Ring in 2006.
