2-time WWE champion would return at an upcoming premium live event for the first time in 17 years if he receives a call from the company

Former World Tag Team Champion Rene Dupree is open to returning to WWE for a one-off appearance at Backlash.

The 40-year-old spent nearly five years as an active competitor in the Stamford-based company. The two-time Tag Team Champion was part of La Résistance alongside Sylvain Grenier. The two were also later joined by Robért Conway. However, Dupree requested his release and left the promotion in 2007 following the tragic events of Chris Benoit.

During a recent episode of his Cafe de Rene podcast, Dupree was asked whether he and his former La Résistance partner would return to WWE for a one-off appearance at Backlash France next May if the company contacted them. The former Tag Team Champion expressed his openness to the idea.

"[Rene, if WWE asked you and Sly to do a one and done appearance at Backlash this year, which is in France, would you say oui?] Yes, I would," he said. [1:18:19 - 1:18:20]

Rene Dupree is not interested in signing a WWE Legends contract

During a previous episode of the Cafe de Rene podcast, a fan asked Rene Dupree whether he was open to signing a Legends contract with the Stamford-based company.

The 40-year-old Champion claimed it was "not enough money to tell me what to do."

"Sly was on here and I think he explained exactly what a Legends contract is. It's $10,000 one-time payment and that gives them control over you where they can stop you from doing things if they so wish to. And if they call you, you can potentially make more. Let's just say without sounding braggadocious I make, now that my father passed away and he left me the family business... [you're doing all right?] Yeah, I don't, that's not enough money to f***ing tell me what to do, let's just put it that way," he said.

It will be interesting to see if Triple H and Co. do bring in Dupree for even a one-off appearance or match at the premium live event in France.

Rene Dupree claimed he would beat CM Punk's "brains in" if they clashed at WrestleMania. Check out the details here.
