27-year-old Irish star may be WWE's replacement for Becky Lynch, feels legendary wrestling personality (Exclusive)
WWE may be grooming Lyra Valkyria to fill the boots of the current Women's World Champion Becky Lynch. The up-and-coming star has been a revelation since being drafted to RAW during the recent Draft.
Becky Lynch has had a Hall of Fame-worthy career with the company starting at the developmental promotion, NXT. She was one of the Four Horsewomen of NXT, who kicked off the Women's Revolution. She won multiple championships and was also one of the first few women to headline WrestleMania.
This week on Sportskeeda's Legion of RAW podcast, Hall of Fame wrestling journalist Bill Apter claimed that Lyra Valkyria could be the heir apparent to Becky Lynch. He felt that she needed to hone her skills in the ring a little bit more. Apter pointed out that this week, Valkyria seemed a little out of sorts in the ring with IYO SKY and the two seemed to have gotten mixed up.
"You know what, probably down the line. I don't know if she's ready for it yet. Her match tonight against IYO SKY was okay. It was not as good as I wanted it to be. It seems like they kind of got a little mixed up and missed some of the spots while they were talking. They weren't sure where they were going with it. I've seen Lyra better, I don't think the two of them were comfortable with each other." [From 30:00 onwards]
With a spot in the finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament up for grabs, Lyra defeated former WWE Women's Champion IYO SKY this week on RAW. She put on an impressive show against the Damage CTRL member and got the pinfall. She will now face the winner of Bianca Belair vs. Nia Jax for the coveted title of Queen of the Ring.
It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old star can work up the ranks to reach the status of Becky Lynch.
