29-year-old to challenge for WWE championship for the last time in Oba Femi's reign
A 29-year-old star will challenge for Oba Femi's championship in what could be the last time in the champion's current reign. This challenge was issued tonight at a WWE event.
Wes Lee made a name for himself as a singles competitor after winning the NXT North American Champion. As the titleholder, Lee proved to be a fighting champion and didn't hesitate to take on any challenger for the title. He also held the record for most title defenses for the North American Championship.
After losing the title belt, he seemingly wasn't the same again. He tried to get it back but a serious injury derailed those efforts and caused him to take a prolonged break. However, when Wes Lee returned back to the ring, he immediately went after the NXT North American Championship. He got his chance in a triple threat match at Battleground but came up short.
Tonight on WWE NXT, Wes Lee confronted Oba Femi and demanded a singles match for the title. While Oba first rejected him, he agreed on the condition that Lee could never challenge for the title again as long as he was the champion. Lee didn't hesitate and accepted the conditions for the title match.
It will be interesting to see if Wes Lee will finally be able to regain the North American Championship and end Oba Femi's dominant reign in the developmental brand tonight.
