29-year veteran sends heartfelt message to Bayley following retirement announcement
A veteran performer recently sent a heartfelt message to the WWE Women's Champion, Bayley. The name in question is Meiko Satomura.
The 44-year-old returned to the WWE ring as a part of the wrestling promotion's Japan Tour. She teamed up with Bayley, Jade Cargill, and Bianca Belair on the first two nights to take on the team of Damage CTRL and Tiffany Stratton. After two wins on consecutive nights, The Role Model and Satomura were scheduled to battle it out for the Women's Title on July 27.
The two experienced performers put forth a memorable bout at the live event, which saw the former Damage CTRL leader secure the win. However, it was Meiko Satomura who made headlines when she announced that she would be retiring in 2025. The veteran performer broke into tears while making the announcement.
Satomura recently took to Instagram to share a picture of herself alongside the inaugural Women's Grand Slam Champion. In the caption, the Japanese star mentioned that the photograph was taken after the match and expressed her gratitude for the title opportunity.
"After the title match ‼️ I am so grateful✨✨✨@itsmebayley 2024.7.27," she wrote.

Bayley is scheduled to defend her Women's Title at SummerSlam
Bayley will face a difficult challenge at The Biggest Party of the Summer in the form of Nia Jax. The Irresistible Force has been one of the most dominant performers on the roster since her return to WWE in September last year. The 40-year-old won the 2024 Queen of the Ring tournament and, with it, an opportunity to challenge for the Women's Championship at SummerSlam.
Nia Jax's new ally, Tiffany Stratton, won the Women's Money in the Bank ladder match earlier this month. The former NXT Women's Champion seemed interested in cashing in her contract on SmackDown before Nia Jax confronted her. The Buff Barbie's addition to the mix has further spiced up the title match scheduled for the upcoming premium live event.
The Role Model defeated her former stablemate, IYO SKY, for the title at WrestleMania XL. It remains to be seen if she will extend her reign when she faces off against a superstar who won her first and only singles title in 2018.
