3-time World Heavyweight Champion will defeat & dethrone Gunther at WrestleMania 41, says ex-WWE employee
A former WWE employee recently predicted the future of Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship reign. He suggested a massive superstar may dethrone The Ring General at WrestleMania 41.
John Cena will officially retire from in-ring competition by the end of next year. The Leader of The Cenation has confirmed that he will compete at WrestleMania 41. Recent reports suggested the 47-year-old legend might challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Show of Shows. Speaking on the Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word podcast, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci did not rule out that possibility.
Carlucci, who spent over 30 years in the Stamford-based company, predicted that Cena's last WrestleMania match would be against The Ring General. He claimed it would witness The Franchise Player dethroning The Ring General to capture his 17th world championship to break his and Ric Flair's record for most world title reigns recognized by WWE:
"I would think it'd be Gunther. If Gunther still champ, I could see Cena beating Gunther and winning it for like the 17th time and breaking the [Ric Flair's] record," he said.
Meanwhile, the former employee pointed out that he does not see Cena winning the title at WrestleMania 41 if Seth Rollins or Damian Priest held the championship by the time of the premium live event:
"I don't know if I could see him beating, if Seth is the champ or Damian Priest. For some reason, I think he can beat Gunther. And I'm not sure if he beats Seth is it so believable or Damian Priest, he's much much bigger? So, I said Gunther. I'm not sure Gunther's gonna hold the title that long though. So, my guess would be Gunther only if he owns the title." [From 22:47 to 23:19]
WWE analyst also thinks John Cena will end Gunther's title reign
On the latest episode of his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts discussed John Cena's upcoming retirement tour. He suggested that the Leader of The Cenation win the Elimination Chamber match to challenge Gunther at WrestleMania 41. However, he claimed Cena should lose.
The 41-year-old proposed that the 16-time World Champion wins the Money in the Bank briefcase and cash in on The Ring General at SummerSlam next year:
''The main event of that show is Gunther vs. Whoever. Gunther wins that match. John Cena comes out at the end, cashes in his briefcase, and looks at Gunther, going, 'Sorry, bro, these are the breaks!' And we have John Cena vs. Gunther at SummerSlam; Money in the Bank cash in, and John Cena wins!"
The 47-year-old legend has held the World Heavyweight Championship three times in his career. It would be interesting to see if he could win the new version of the title before his retirement.
