30-year-old to face Bron Breakker after SummerSlam, ex-WWE writer predicts (Exclusive)
Bron Breakker will challenge Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship at WWE SummerSlam on August 3. Vince Russo, WCW and WWE's former head writer, believes Ilja Dragunov will get involved in the title picture after the event.
On July 22, Breakker defeated Dragunov on RAW to earn another opportunity at Zayn's title. The match ended abruptly when the new number one contender speared his 30-year-old opponent in mid-air at ringside. The referee then checked on Dragunov and deemed him unable to continue.
Russo spoke about the Intercontinental Championship storyline on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo. Asked by host Dr. Chris Featherstone about possible challengers if Breakker dethrones Zayn, he suggested Dragunov's name:
"Bro, knowing them, they're probably gonna bring that Dragunov guy back," Russo said. [1:57 – 2:02]
On July 6, Breakker unsuccessfully challenged Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship at Money in the Bank. Russo believes WWE management wanted to test how the 26-year-old would react to the setback:
"I don't know. Because they're testing him, bro. They're testing him. That's exactly why. We're gonna test him." [2:19 – 2:25]

Vince Russo compares Bron Breakker and Steve Austin
In 1995, Steve Austin joined WWE as a wrestling technician character named The Ringmaster. Realizing the gimmick was not working, the former WCW star reinvented himself as Stone Cold and became one of wrestling's most iconic names.
Vince Russo does not think then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was testing Austin like Bron Breakker is potentially being tested right now. Looking back, he believes McMahon did not understand how good Austin was:
"That wasn't really a test, though," Russo continued. "Vince had no idea what he was capable of." [2:47 – 2:51]
Russo also explained why there is "absolutely no way" Sami Zayn will retain the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.
