34-year-old star name-drops former WWE Superstar following controversial end to recent match
WWE Superstar Ethan Page was involved in a match with a controversial ending on the most recent edition of NXT. The 34-year-old brought up former star Curtis Axel on social media following the show.
The former Impact World Tag Team Champion competed in a Battle Royal to determine the next challenger for the NXT Championship on the June 18 episode of the white and gold brand. Oro Mensah attacked Page during the match, and both performers went out of the squared circle through the ropes. It meant that the former AEW star was not eliminated.
Ethan Page did not return to the ring, and Je'Von Evans won the Battle Royal. However, he lost to Page later the same night in a singles match. After the show, All Ego took to X (fka Twitter), insisting he should be the number one contender for the NXT Championship since he pinned Evans.
Under Page's post, a user joked that the WWE Superstar must be the longest survivor in a Battle Royal as he was not eliminated from the match. Ethan took notice and quickly noted that the record belonged to Curtis Axel. The former WWE superstar was unable to enter the 2015 Royal Rumble match after being attacked by Erick Rowan on his way to the ring.
WWE Hall of Famer shares honest opinion on Ethan Page's NXT debut
Ethan Page made a surprise appearance on the May 28 edition of NXT to attack Trick Williams. The former AEW star made his in-ring debut against the latter in a championship match at NXT Battleground. Unfortunately, he suffered a loss in his first in-ring appearance in the Stamford-based company.
During a recent edition of Busted Open, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray stated that he did not like WWE's booking of Ethan Page's debut. The 52-year-old pointed out that he felt that the latter got overshadowed by TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace's surprise appearance. He further suggested that Page should have debuted more traditionally:
"I'm not a fan of the way they debuted Ethan Page last night. First, he got lost in the sauce of Jordynne Grace. There's no doubt. You could say whatever you want. Jordynne is the story from last night, so he's gonna bask in the shadow of Jordynne today... I think he's been off people's radar long enough that could just debut him the way he did. He was debuted as a big deal, [and] I don't consider Page a big deal. I don't know if he's going to be a big deal. I would've went the opposite direction. I would've debuted him in a little bit more of a traditional way, be it a vignette, be it something, next week will be an interesting follow-up," he said. [H/T: Wrestling INC]
