36-year-old star regrets missing out on one major thing from WWE Champion Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has become the face of WWE since defeating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. Meanwhile, a wrestler from outside the Stamford-based promotion expressed regret about missing out on the chance to learn from The American Nightmare.

The name in question here is Joe Hendry of TNA Wrestling. Following the recent NXT brand and TNA crossover, the 36-year-old star participated in a Battle Royal to determine Trick Williams' next challenger. However, The Prestigious One was quickly eliminated.

During a conversation with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Hendry acknowledged that while he may have crossed paths with the Undisputed WWE Champion in the past, he never had the golden opportunity to receive "mentorship" from Rhodes.

"So, Cody and I initially worked together in What Culture Pro Wrestling, and I think that was a real missed opportunity for me to get mentorship from Cody," he said. (H/T: CVV)

The TNA Wrestling star elaborated that having access to Cody Rhodes' experience and guidance could have significantly impacted his wrestling journey.

"So when I got to What Culture, I think rather than learn to be a student, I was trying to be like, I can be on Cody's level, and I think I maybe missed a mentorship opportunity there," he added. (H/T: CVV)

Joe Hendry reveals WWE star Cody Rhodes hooked him up with major promotion

After Cody left WWE in 2016, he wrestled in the independent circuit, Ring of Honor, TNA, and NJPW before serving as the Executive Vice President for AEW.

During the same conversation, Joe Hendry revealed that The American Nightmare was the one who told him ROH was interested in him. The Prestigious One is grateful for the current WWE Champion's favor.

"No, Cody came to me, and he said, 'Listen, like, I think Ring of Honor is interested in you!' He's like, 'You're not under contract?' I'd done some stuff with TNA when it was IMPACT back in 2018, and I think there was the assumption that it was under contract, but I just done a handful of shows. So Cody set up the that that call with me and Ring of Honor, and honestly, it was like, deal was done in five minutes," Hendry said. (H/T: CVV)

After the TNA star was eliminated from the Battle Royal on NXT, he threw a fit before Shawn Michaels. Only time will tell if The Heartbreak Kid signs Hendry full-time to the Stamford-based promotion.
