38-year-old former WWE Superstar says he was his own worst enemy
A former United States Champion has shared that he was his own worst enemy during his time in WWE. The person in question is none other than Matt Riddle.
The Original Bro was released in September last year, ending his five-year tenure with the company. He was involved in a tag team with Randy Orton known as RK-Bro. They held the Tag Team Championship twice, but their run as a team basically ended after The Viper was sidelined with a lengthy injury. While Riddle portrayed a babyface on TV, he had heat with some people backstage.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Matt Riddle acknowledged that he was his own worst enemy in WWE, and he admitted that it was hard to tell him how he should do things.
"I'm always going to be me. It's really hard to tell me how to live my life or how I'm going to do things. I can be my worst enemy when you're working for a billion-dollar corporation that wants to look cookie-cutter and get Disney and every other sponsor to book them. Yeah, I'm definitely my own worst enemy in that sense. But I think in that sense, I'm as valuable as I am because I don't bend on certain things, and I think that's what makes me unique. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm my own worst enemy. But I'm just me," he said.
Matt Riddle had heat with the likes of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and Bill Goldberg.
Matt Riddle on possibly returning to WWE
Matt Riddle discussed the possibility of him returning to the Stamford-based company during the Sports Illustrated interview. He stated that the chances of getting re-hired are very high, as CM Punk went back even though he had major issues with WWE.
The Second City Saint returned to the company in November last year after a decade. He is currently one of the top stars in WWE.
"The chances of me going back, I think they're extremely high," Riddle said. "If CM Punk, who filed a lawsuit against WWE, and then raked them through the mud for a decade, then goes to the competition, I'll tell you this, if he can do that, everything can be forgiven. I know I wasn't the easiest to work with at times. I think the door is always open," said Riddle.
Matt Riddle currently competes in the indies. He's the reigning AAA World Cruiserweight Champion.
