39-year-old WWE champion who returned under Triple H is "not a star," according to ex-employee (Exclusive)
Following the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown, former WWE writer Vince Russo had some harsh words for a current champion. Many fans feel this star was one of Triple H's picks from NXT.
Candice LeRae lost to Bayley on the show after faking an injury, before she appeared later on to tease an alliance with Nia Jax. While she has been featured a lot more in recent weeks, Russo isn't a fan of the WWE Women's Speed Champion.
Speaking on BroDown, alongside host Mac Davis on Backstage Pass, the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion claimed LeRae isn't a star. Vince Russo did admit that she is a reliable worker, before stating his preference for putting "stars" on RAW and SmackDown:
"[Candice LeRae]'s not a star. She's a good little hand, but she's not a star and I'm just a firm believer that stars should be on television," said Vince Russo. [7:00-7:13]
Despite that assessment, it looks like Candice LeRae's role on SmackDown will only grow two years after she returned under Triple H's creative leadership. Furthermore, the introduction of the Women's United States Championship may give the female midcard scene a whole new spotlight. Several WWE Superstars have already expressed their interest in winning the title.
