4-time WWE champion gives major praise to Gunther for helping his career
The WWE ring has hosted several notable matches between Gunther and top stars like Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Before WWE, the Imperium boss fought notable talents around the world, including Sammy Guevara, Wheeler Yuta, Pete Dunne, and Ilja Dragunov.
The World Heavyweight Champion has also had a rivalry with Chad Gable. They have worked over 30 matches since 2019, mostly multi-man and on non-televised live events. The highlight of the feud was Gable's 2023 chase for the Intercontinental Championship, which saw Gunther retain on July 31 by pinfall. Gable got another shot but won by count-out on August 21, and finally, Gunther retained by pinfall on September 4 to end the series.
Master Gable is disappointed that he failed to capture the Intercontinental Championship in his recent run against Sami Zayn. The American Made leader admitted his frustration in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet and said he hopes to finally win a singles title soon.
Gable said he didn't want the fans to label him as the guy who can't win the big one but added that the losses are building him up so that his first singles championship win will mean almost as much as a win has meant for anybody in the past. The 4-time WWE Tag Team Champion credited The Ring General for what he did to boost his career.
"I’ve come so close so many times, the Gunther stuff, what it did for my career, what Gunther did for my career can’t be overstated. I have him to thank for so much the way he elevated me," Chad Gable said. [H/T Chris Van Vliet]
Gable believes he and Zayn have accomplished so much in a short time regarding story-telling and in-ring work. The 38-year-old said he and Sami have one more piece of the puzzle. Still, unfortunately, the interview was conducted before The Underdog From The Underground dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam.
