40-year-old star wins first singles WWE match in SEVEN YEARS; defeats Austin Theory

A WWE Superstar has won a singles match for the first time in seven years. Luke Gallows defeated Austin Theory in a dark bout on last night's SmackDown.

Everything was going well for Theory last year. He received a heavy push on WWE TV and picked up wins against top names like John Cena and Seth Rollins. Many fans believed back then that it was only a matter of time before the former United States Champion would become a main event star.

A lot has changed since then. Before last night's edition of SmackDown kicked off, the fans in attendance were treated to a dark match pitting Austin Theory against Luke Gallows. Interestingly, Gallows picked up a win over Theory.

Fans are aware that Luke Gallows is a tag team wrestler and seldom competes in singles matches. This was the 40-year-old's first singles win in over seven years. The last time Big LG won a one-on-one contest was on the May 1, 2017, episode of WWE RAW, where he defeated Enzo Amore.

Austin Theory has already achieved his goal of being featured on a WrestleMania card

In 2021, Theory appeared for an interview on Alternative Sport. During the chat, he opened up about his goals in WWE and said he wanted to get on the WrestleMania card.

"Yeah, I think a United States Championship match [at WrestleMania] would be cool. An Intercontinental Championship match, a WWE Championship match. I think, for Austin Theory, it's not about how everybody else sees things like, 'Oh, the Universal Title is the biggest match. Oh, the United States Title is not as big.' I think every match on WrestleMania stands alone for itself," Theory said. "So, I think anything I do on that show, it'll just be great. So I can't really pinpoint a certain thing because I think everything you can do at WrestleMania is great, so let's just see what happens and I'll definitely be prepared for it, whatever it is." In recent years, the A-Town Down Under member has faced prominent names like Pat McAfee, John Cena, and The Judgment Day at WrestleMania.

Fans of Theory aren't happy one bit over his latest loss. From defeating John Cena at 'Mania to losing to a tag team specialist wrestler in a dark match is quite a downfall in the eyes of many viewers. It will be interesting to see how he plans to bounce back.
