43-year-old star details major scrapped plans with Cody Rhodes during his first WWE run

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes' first run was filled with promise until he became Stardust and eventually left the company. Recently, Stephen Amell detailed nixed plans he was supposed to have with Stardust, which would have led to his first singles match inside a Steel Cage.

In 2015, WWE ran an angle with Stephen Amell as he confronted Cody Rhodes, aka Stardust. This eventually led to a tag team match at SummerSlam when Neville joined forces with Amell and Stardust teamed up with Wade Barrett, with the celebrity and Neville ultimately emerging victorious.

In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Amell recalled the original scrapped plans between him and Stardust. The Arrow star was set to have a one-on-one against Rhodes' alter ego inside a Steel Cage.

"So, the plan was, as best as I can recall, there was a pay-per-view after SummerSlam [2015], and then the October pay-per-view was going to be in LA. And Cody [Rhodes] and I were supposed to have a Cage match. We were getting ready to send a ring up to Vancouver for me to do a bunch more training because I basically faked my way through the SummerSlam match," Amell said.

According to Amell, Cody Rhodes was embarrassed after WWE shelved the match out of nowhere.

"So, the plan was actually to go more the length as I went with Christopher Daniels [All In 2018], and again the plan was to lose clean. All of a sudden, Cody [Rhodes] calls me up, and he goes, 'Look man, I don't know what's going on, but our match just got shelved, and no one will give me an explanation why, and I'm devastated and I'm deeply embarrassed," Amell said. Stephen Amell had his singles debut on Cody Rhodes' show outside WWE

In 2018, Cody Rhodes, Nick Jackson, and Matt Jackson created All In, which featured stars from Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and many other independent promotions.

During this show, Cody Rhodes won the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship from Nick Aldis. However, the show also marked the singles debut of Stephen Amell against Christopher Daniels.

In the end, Amell lost to Daniels and hasn't competed inside the ring since. Stephen Amell and Cody Rhodes became friends in real life after working together in WWE and on Arrow.
