5-time champion announces retirement from independent wrestling bookings; last date is weeks before the WWE Royal Rumble

A legendary wrestler has announced his retirement from wrestling in independent promotions, with his last appearance scheduled for only three weeks before the WWE Royal Rumble. This has led to a large amount of speculation among fans.

After an appearance at Northern Crown earlier today, Josh Alexander announced his retirement from independent wrestling shows. He said that he was finishing them up in Toronto, and then he revealed that he was finishing up indie wrestling appearances as a whole. The star has won two world titles, two tag team titles, and the X-Division Title during his time in TNA.

The wrestler later took to social media to further elaborate on finishing up with the indies and said that he had been wrestling there for 20 years. He said that he was tired of the hustle and having spoken to his family, had come to the decision to stop them.

"Regardless of what may or may not be in my future. After talking with my family, I’ve made the decision to stop taking Indie dates. I’ve loved my time in the independents these past 20 years. I’ve done amazing things, worked with amazing people and got to travel the world, performing in front of amazing fans. That being said, I’m tired of the hustle. It’s time for the next crop to step up and fill whatever void I may leave behind in the Canadian scene."

The wrestler also said that this was not a goodbye to fans, but that he would be seeing them later. He noted that his last independent wrestling date was January 11. The WWE Royal Rumble Premium Live Event is on February 1, 2025.

"It’s not goodbye. It’s just see you later. ✌️ ❤️ ** Last one is @WrestlePrestige January 11th. **"

Could Josh Alexander be heading to WWE for the Royal Rumble after finishing his dates as an independent wrestler?

At this time, reports state that Josh Alexander is signed with TNA through to next February, after which he becomes a free agent. Whether this could mean, thanks to the agreement between TNA and WWE, the wrestler may appear in the Royal Rumble, remains to be seen.

The star's future is uncertain at this time, but there has been much speculation among fans about what's next. It remains to be seen what finally happens for the star next year.
