5-time WWE world champion confirms movie is being made about his career
A five-time WWE world champion recently confirmed that a movie is being made about his career. Kurt Angle revealed that there's a project about his Olympic journey and they are just waiting for investors to fund it.
Angle was the first Olympic gold medalist to ever become a WWE Superstar. He won the gold in 1996 in Atlanta with a broken neck, which has been part of his lore. His journey from being a kid in Pittsburgh to turning into an Olympian is being made into a movie.
Speaking to Danielle McCartan of WFAN, the four-time WWE Champion and one-time World Heavyweight Champion discussed the movie about his journey to winning an Olympic gold medal.
"I got a movie going on. Really proud of this. It's a really great story. It's about a kid from the streets of Pittsburgh who overcomes all these obstacles, including a broken neck, to win the Olympic gold medal. It's only about my Olympic career, it's not about my pro wrestling career. ... Right now, we just got the script done. We're shopping for investors, which shouldn't be a problem. Af that, we pick the cast. This is going to happen probably in the next three months. We have a few (casting candidates), I can't say any names, but we have a few good names we're thinking about," Angle said. [H/T Fightful]
Kurt Angle added that the directors of the film will be Ian and Eshom Nelms, whose projects include Fatman starring Mel Gibson and Red Right Hand featuring Orlando Bloom. Angle also described the movie as a combination of Rocky, The Fighter and Iron Claw.
Kurt Angle on why he's not the WWE GOAT
In the same interview with WFAN, Kurt Angle was asked why he doesn't consider himself the GOAT of WWE. Angle explained that his short time with the company due to injuries and drug use prevented him from reaching all-time status there.
"If I didn't take the d**gs I think I would be considered the greatest of all time. Because I would have spent 20+ years in the WWE and I only spent seven and that's enough time. The years I had at that generation I was the best in that generation, I could say that. But looking back, can I consider myself the greatest of all time? No. Because I don’t think I put in enough years," Angle said. [H/T Inside the Ropes]
Angle began his WWE career in 1998, spending several months training under Dory Funk Jr. and Tom Prichard. He made his debut in November of that year and went on to have one of the greatest careers in the company's history. He only spent around eight years there before asking for his release. He returned in 2017 to get inducted into the Hall of Fame.
