53-year-old legend addresses his WWE future; was recently attacked
A WWE Hall of Famer addressed his future with the company after appearing on television recently. Rob Van Dam was seen on NXT's last two episodes and was even attacked this past Wednesday by Wes Lee.
RVD made a surprise appearance on the October 29 episode of NXT, asking General Manager Ava about appearing at NXT 2300 inside the old ECW Arena. His wish was granted and he was featured in a backstage segment with Kelani Jordan.
The former WWE Champion was then ambushed by Wes Lee, who should have been preparing for his match against Je'Von Evans. RVD came out during the match, distracting Lee to help Evans get the crucial win.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the 53-year-old legend felt optimistic about his future with the company. He also had a great time in NXT and received a warm welcome from the people in Orlando.
"I was about to say I felt the same way, just a little more optimistic. But yeah, I do feel more, when I was at the show last week of 'NXT' in Orlando, it's like everybody goes out of their way to come up and say how much they appreciate me being there. And it really feels legit and honest. It doesn't feel like they were told to do it. They come up and they're happy. They're excited that I'm there. They think it helps their show out. They look up to me, they watch me, they know that I've been wrestling longer than they've been around. And none of that was really apparent before, unless somebody points these things out and says them to you, you might not know how anybody feels," Van Dam said. [H/T Wrestling, Inc.]
Rob Van Dam added that he has a good feeling about WWE taking care of legends financially with royalty and legends deals. Van Dam appreciates that the company is acknowledging those who paved the way for the current generation of stars.
Rob Van Dam open to facing John Cena in WWE next year
John Cena is set to begin his farewell tour in January and is expected to have some dream matches along the way. One of the WWE legends who wants to get back in the ring with Cena is Rob Van Dam. He told Hannibal TV last month that he's interested in facing his former rival during his retirement tour.
"I would be extremely interested in that, yes," said the Hall of Famer. [1:35 onwards]
RVD famously dethroned Cena at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 to become the WWE Champion.
