Adam Copeland says he's not a "traitor" after ditching WWE for AEW

WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland (Edge) is looking to make a mark in AEW before hanging up his boots. The Rated-R Superstar recently spoke about his decision to jump ship to the rival promotion and how it doesn’t make him a traitor.

Adam had a great career in WWE that allowed him to win 11 world titles. Apart from that, he won the mid-card titles and the tag team championships of the company several times.

After performing for WWE for well over two decades, he decided to ditch the Stamford-based promotion for its rival, AEW. He made his AEW debut on October 1, 2023, to start afresh.

Speaking to Adrian Hernandez, he acknowledged that fans felt betrayed following his move. However, after making the move, Adam Copeland claimed he was not a WWE traitor, as the two sides were on great teams.

"You know, it’s interesting. Just in terms of, I guess, how people have like almost a brand allegiance or a team allegiance kind of thing. For me, I knew there was gonna be some fan base in switching companies that [said], ‘Oh, he’s a traitor.’ But, man, nobody’s a traitor. We left on great terms," Adam Copeland said.

He brought up some pop culture references to show how his move did not betray WWE or anyone involved while moving to AEW.

"For me, I’m doing all I ever wanted to do, and I’m getting a chance to do it again after I was told I would never do it again. I get to do it with my best friend. I get to look at a whole new roster of opponents. That to me is exciting, and to be able to get as excited as I am at 50 years old, why wouldn’t I do that?" [H/T 411Mania]

The WWE Hall of Famer still has much left in the tank to entertain fans. He has aligned himself with Sting and Darby Allin. Even at 50, Copeland can do many things that wrestlers much younger than him can only dream of.

Adam Copeland recently spoke about the reason he left WWE for AEW

Many fans have been asking what drove Edge away from WWE towards AEW. The Rated-R Superstar answered that question while speaking to the New York Post.

Adam Copeland noted that he wasn’t pleased with having a part-time schedule. Instead, he wanted to show up every week to build some storylines and interact with fans.

"I think from their perspective and I see their perspective entirely, if we bring you out too much then it’s not special anymore. I get that. I really do. So it was for limited dates. With that though, you can’t really get into a proper story. You can’t really dive into what this thing could be. For me looking at it, it’s like I’m 49. I got a very, very limited time to capitalize on what I have left. Because three months off, that’s three months where I could have done some stuff," Adam Copeland said.
