WWE News: AJ Styles sets his sights on the WWE Championship once again

AJ Styles kicked off the main card of WrestleMania 33 against Shane McMahon

What’s the story?

On a WWE.com video interviewing AJ Styles after his match against Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 33, AJ gave a hug to fellow Club member Karl Anderson, and would go on to state that “Whoever has the championship, I want it.”

In case you didn’t know...

Technically, AJ Styles has never had a one-on-one rematch for the WWE Championship after being defeated by John Cena at the Royal Rumble. His next chance at the championship came in the Elimination Chamber; which was won by Bray Wyatt.

There would later be a Battle Royal to determine Wyatt’s number one contender for WrestleMania; where AJ and Luke Harper would “tie”. The very next week, there was a one-on-one match between the two that was won by Styles.

After that, Randy Orton would turn on Wyatt and reclaim his right to contest for the title, due to him having won the Royal Rumble. This would result in Orton beating Styles to ultimately get the opportunity to face Wyatt at WrestleMania 33.

The heart of the matter...

Later on in the night, AJ would get his answer on who has the championship. Randy Orton withstood the visual trickery of Bray Wyatt to defeat him at WrestleMania 33 and captured the WWE Championship.

The question is, will AJ finally get the one-on-one rematch he’s owed, or will he be traded to Monday Night Raw?

There have been many rumours swirling lately that AJ will join the red brand. Those rumours were further fueled when AJ’s new shirt was revealed and the prominent colour was red.

What’s next?

In the video, AJ said:

“Despite how I feel about Shane McMahon, that was a pretty unbelievable match.”

It is possible that the 20-minute WrestleMania match between the two results in a truce and as a show of respect, Shane McMahon could possibly grant AJ his one-on-one title match. Shane McMahon’s words of respect for AJ Styles after their match further adds to this theory.

McMahon’s interview can be seen below:

We will see how it all unfolds on the next SmackDown LIVE this Tuesday.

Author’s take

While it was very odd that the McMahon vs. Styles match was first on the main card, they put on a hell of a show.

I was expecting a lot of high spots or just an all-out brawl, but there was a lot of great wrestling in this match. Considering that one of the competitors (McMahon) is not a full-time wrestler, the match was even more magical.

I was originally leaning towards AJ Styles being traded to Monday Night Raw to be reunited with The Club. There could be a different story here with a show of respect between AJ and Shane that keeps him on SmackDown now. This uncertainty is what makes you look forward to the future.
