Alberto Del Rio addresses possible WWE return (Exclusive)
Alberto Del Rio won four world titles in WWE between 2009 and 2016. In an exclusive interview, the 47-year-old opened up about the possibility of returning to the company one day.
Del Rio was widely viewed as one of the top WWE heels of his generation. The Mexican still wrestles regularly and is currently preparing to face Ray Gonzalez at the World Wrestling Council (WWC) Black September event on Saturday.
Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling, Del Rio reflected on his positive relationship with former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon when asked whether he could return:
"I don't know. Some years ago, the last time you and I talked, I mean, I said yes because everybody knows this, I was always in good terms with the man [Vince McMahon], but the man is not there anymore, so I don't know how it is today when it comes to the people running the company." [4:16 – 4:48]
Although he is unsure whether it will ever happen, Del Rio made it clear he would like to retire in WWE one day:
"I know they know what I'm doing or what I've been doing all these years, especially these past 16 months, and I'm hoping that after seeing the best version of Alberto Del Rio, because I'm in a fantastic place and moment right now, I hope after all that hard work they decide one day to make the call because I would be lying if I don't tell you or tell the fans that that's my biggest dream to go back there and have one last run and retire, finally, hanging my boots after a match in the WWE against one of my favorite wrestlers, whoever it is." Alberto Del Rio's dream final WWE opponent
The former League of Nations member feuded with several top stars during his first WWE run, including CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, and John Cena.
If he returns, Del Rio is open to the idea of facing any of his legendary former rivals again:
"Punk, Cena, Rey Mysterio, Big Show, Punk, Ziggler, whoever it is. I had the opportunity to fight the best in my industry, so it doesn't matter who it is giving me that last match, but I would love to have that happen in the WWE." [5:44 – 6:12]
Del Rio's final WWE match ended in defeat against Cena on the August 16, 2016, episode of SmackDown.
