"An enigma" - Baron Corbin praises WWE star who last wrestled 7 months ago
Former United States Champion Baron Corbin recently praised a WWE star who has not competed in a match in seven months. The name in question is The Lone Wolf's former rival, Pat McAfee.
Seven months ago, McAfee made a surprise appearance in the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble match, returning to the ring after an absence. He subsequently transitioned to a full-time role as a commentator, joining the legendary Michael Cole on Monday Night RAW. The 37-year-old personality recently announced that he would be taking a break from WWE to focus on ESPN's College Gameday.
For those unaware, Corbin and McAfee went head-to-head at the 2022 SummerSlam in Nashville. To everyone's surprise, the former RAW commentator picked up a huge win over The Lone Wolf at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Baron Corbin asserted that the 37-year-old star is a charismatic and talented broadcaster with excellent chemistry with Michael Cole. The former WWE United States Champion commended Pat McAfee's ability to turn anything he touches into gold and admired his unpredictable and wild nature while acknowledging that it could sometimes be frustrating.
"It’s great. Him [McAfee] and Michael Cole have so much fun together. They are friends inside the work area and outside. Pat is just an enigma. Everything he touches can turn to gold. Getting to be in the ring with him at SummerSlam two years ago was amazing. Now watching him over at the broadcast team on RAW, he has been knocking it out of the park. He is wild. He is unpredictable. He may drive some people crazy, but you can’t stop listening to him," said Corbin. (H/T: TV Insider)
Baron Corbin comments on the current WWE atmosphere backstage
The Lone Wolf moved to the SmackDown brand after losing the NXT Tag Team Championship with Bron Breakker. He has been under Triple H's creative leadership for several months now.
During the same interview with TV Insider, Baron Corbin noted that he feels good about the mood backstage at WWE. The former NXT Tag Team Champion praised The Game for making the shows better, supporting the wrestlers, and giving them lots of chances to do well.
"It’s great. There is a lot of high morale. Guys are excited to see what the future holds. [Triple H] is always trying to figure out how he wants to elevate the show and company and is doing such a great job at that," he said.
For the past few weeks, Corbin has been teaming up with Apollo Crews to face Legado Del Fantasma. It remains to be seen if The Lone Wolf has his sights set on a singles title in WWE.
