Asuka shares positive update ahead of WWE SmackDown

Asuka took to social media ahead of the upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown to share a positive update. Tonight's show will air live from the Rogers Arena in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Empress of Tomorrow has not competed in a match since WWE Backlash: France in May. The Kabuki Warriors lost the Women's Tag Team Championship to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair at the premium live event, and Asuka also suffered an injury during the match. She was supposed to compete in the Queen of the Ring Tournament, earlier this year, but was pulled due to a knee injury.

However, the former champion took to social media today to seemingly share a positive update. She shared a new selfie, and there were no crutches in sight in the photograph shared on her X (fka Twitter) account.

The nine-time champion is a member of Damage CTRL on WWE RAW. Her stablemate, Dakota Kai, recently suffered a torn meniscus and is also currently out of action.

WWE RAW star names Asuka as her dream opponent

Sonya Deville recently named Asuka as her dream opponent in the company and noted that they have never had a singles match together on the main roster.

Deville tore her ACL last year but recently returned to RAW to form a new faction with Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler called 'Pure Fusion Collective.' In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, the veteran stated that she has battled the RAW star in NXT, but has never faced her on the main roster in a televised match. She added that the Damage CTRL star is one of her favorite opponents to work with.

"And then it would be like, I go to RAW she got to SmackDown she go to SmackDown I go to RAW and we just keep playing tag and not catching each other. So I was like, if I could paint the perfect picture, I would love to have like a two-three seg match with Asuka and just mess each other up," said Deville. [H/T: Chris Van Vliet]

The veteran has not wrestled in 125 days but did make an appearance during WWE's tour of Japan earlier this year. Only time will tell when the 42-year-old will be cleared to return to the ring.
