Backstage update on current weather conditions and their potential effect on WWE SmackDown
WWE SmackDown is scheduled to air live tonight from the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, but the company is facing major issues from the weather.
Severe winter storms are sweeping across parts of the US, and Nebraska is currently dealing with bad weather, making things tough on travelers and locals. The temperature is currently at 5°F in Lincoln, but the wind chill is listed at -16°F by The Weather Channel. Winds are up to 30mph, while visibility is listed at 1.6 km. The area is currently under a Winter Storm Warning, with snow showers and wind scheduled into 9 pm local time.
Several WWE stars have experienced winter weather travel issues today. PWInsider reports that officials tried to avoid the issue by flying some talents into Omaha on Thursday so that they could then drive to Lincoln for the show. This was a smart move by WWE, as there were around 1,400 flights canceled today.
The drive from Omaha to Lincoln usually takes less than one hour in normal weather, but the trip is taking a bit longer today, as revealed by several superstars.
There has been no backstage talk about talents missing the show or having significant issues, but if that changes, we will keep you updated.
The SmackDown taping is scheduled to begin at 6:45 pm local time. As of this writing, with less than two hours to go, the arena has just confirmed that the taping will still take place. They wrote on the official arena website: "**THIS EVENT IS ON AS SCHEDULED TONIGHT!**"
WWE has announced the following for tonight's SmackDown: Bianca Belair vs. Bayley, Los Lotharios vs. LWO, Cameron Grimes vs. Grayson Waller, plus an in-ring segment with AJ Styles, LA Knight, and Randy Orton.
