Batista makes extremely personal WWE confession
Former WWE Superstar Batista has carved a stellar career for himself in Hollywood after his stint in pro wrestling. The wrestler-turned-actor recently made a personal confession regarding WWE and his feature films.
The Animal began his acting career while he was still at WWE in the mid-2000s at the height of his popularity. It started with small roles in movies and TV shows before he began acting full-time after leaving the company in 2010. He struck gold as Drax The Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Batista was asked about hitting a powerbomb in the trailer for his new film, My Spy: The Eternal City. He admitted that he tried to incorporate some wrestling moves from his arsenal into his movies as a sort of Easter egg for fans to notice.
"I just wanted to put it in. We were working on that fight scene and I was like, 'Oh man, this would be fun.' And now, it's kind of become my obsession. I'm trying to squeeze it into every film just because. I don't know. You know, it's one of those Easter eggs. I think if I can get it into every film, I will. It's just a nod to my career. A nod to the fans," the WWE legend said. [H/T - Comicbook.com]
My Spy: The Eternal City is the sequel to the 2020 film My Spy and was released on Amazon Prime Video on July 18 in the United States.
Batista's new film has more than one WWE Easter egg
In addition to the powerbomb, Batista's new film My Spy: The Eternal City seemingly has more than one WWE Easter egg. In the trailer above, at around the 1:49 mark, Ken Jeong's character David Kim gave a nod to Roman Reigns, saying "Acknowledge Me."
It has been one of Reigns' most iconic catchphrases during his time as The Tribal Chief and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. WWE's popularity is at an all-time high and films having pro wrestling-related Easter eggs is something that not a lot of people expected.
Batista has not appeared on WWE television since announcing his official retirement from wrestling in 2019 following WrestleMania 35. He was supposed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020 but the pandemic and his hectic work caused it to be postponed.
