Bayley comments on whether WWE fans will ever see her return to popular former gimmick (Exclusive)
Bayley has evolved significantly throughout her years in WWE, turning into a full-fledged heel. In a recent interview, she was asked whether she would ever get back to her roots by adopting the "hugger Bayley" gimmick, to which she had a clear response.
Before turning heel and becoming a part of Damage CTRL, Bayley sported a babyface look with bright colors and a signature ponytail. She also used to hug a number of fans during her entrance, further reinforcing her babyface nature. In the later years, however, she cut off her ponytail and turned heel, insulting her fans.
In a recent exclusive interview with Dr. Chris Featherstone for Sportskeeda Wrestling, she was asked about whether fans would ever see her in the same gimmick. Bayley responded:
"No. Because I am new. I am done with it. I have grown. There's no way. You can't go back to an old relationship just because it was fun you know? There is newer kids, that's true, but they got other people to cheer for you know? It's time for someone else to take that rein." [3:08 onwards]
Bayley also commented on her upcoming match with Nia Jax at WWE SummerSlam
According to Bayley, Nia Jax's return to action does not mean she is just "happy to be here."
Speaking on Booker T's Hall of Fame podcast, the reigning champion talked about how focused Nia Jax had been since her comeback. The two are slated to face each other at SummerSlam, with the WWE Women's Championship on the line.
"I've known Nia for the past 10 years and she's always been strong, she's always been dominant. But I think that time away from WWE really got her mind going in a different way. It got her firing on different cylinders. When she came back, it was like there's no time to mess around. She wasn't going to just be happy to be here. She was gonna come here and she was gonna make a change and she was going to put people on notice," Bayley said. [4:49 - 5:13]
Fans will have to tune in to SummerSlam tonight to find out whether Bayley can successfully defend her title, or whether there will be a new champion crowned at the PLE.
