Bayley reaches impressive milestone as WWE Women's Champion

SmackDown Superstar Bayley reached an impressive milestone as WWE Women's Champion on Tuesday (July 16). The 35-year-old is set to defend the title on August 3 at SummerSlam 2024.

The Role Model captured the WWE Women's Championship at WrestleMania XL by defeating IYO SKY. She used to be stablemates with SKY in Damage CTRL, but the group betrayed her ahead of The Show of Shows.

The veteran successfully defended the title against Piper Niven at Clash at the Castle last month and will face Nia Jax at SummerSlam. Bayley won the title on Night Two of WrestleMania XL, which took place on April 7. She completed her 100th day as WWE Women's Champion on July 16.

Meanwhile, Tiffany Stratton won the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match earlier this month. The 25-year-old teased cashing in on Bayley this past Friday night. However, Nia Jax spoiled The Buff Barbie's plans. The Irresistible Force earned the title shot at The Biggest Party of The Summer by winning the Queen of the Ring tournament earlier this year. It will be fascinating to see if Bayley manages to counter the threat of Nia and Tiffany in Cleveland next month.

WWE Women's Champion Bayley believes betrayal from Damage CTRL "was a long time coming!"

The SmackDown Superstar created Damage CTRL at SummerSlam 2022 with IYO SKY and Dakota Kai. The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) joined the heel faction in November 2023. However, Bayley was booted out of the stable in February 2024.

In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling earlier this year, the reigning WWE Women's Champion stated that Damage CTRL was likely planning to betray her for a long time before the attack. The former Women's Royal Rumble winner added that the faction was waiting for the right moment and must have thought she would be caught unaware.

"Yeah, if you would have seen when they attacked me that day, I definitely saw it coming. It was a long time coming, I think. I feel now, looking back in hindsight, that they were just waiting for the right moment, and I think they thought I was a little dumber than I really am, you know?" she said. [0:55 – 1:15]
