WWE News: Becky Lynch on why she didn't want to join WWE when she was younger, quitting wrestling at one point

Lynch started her wrestling career at an early age of 15

In a recent interview with ESPN.com, Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch discussed the early days of her wrestling career. Becky stated that her mother was not fond of her idea of being a wrestler. The Irish Lass Kicker also disclosed that she didn’t feel the urge to be a part of WWE when she was young. According to Lynch, she could not identify herself with the term ‘Diva’ and had a feeling :

"The divas brand was meant to put a spotlight on the women, but the term to me felt more glamorous than me."

After a few years of working for various European and Japanese promotions, her wrestling career came to an abrupt end in 2006. She was diagnosed with a possible damage to her eight cranial nerve after an injury, she had earlier that year. Lynch, who was 19 at that time, had contradictory thoughts about her success in a wrestling career and decided to quit wrestling :

"I couldn't face it, so I stepped away. It was like a death for me, and that is not an exaggeration.”

Becky stated that she struggled for years to find out what she actually wanted to do. She wanted to re-associate herself with wrestling but didn’t know how to get back.

Lynch was signed to a developmental deal with WWE in 2013 and became a part of the NXT. She debuted in the main roster of WWE in July 2015. In the first ever Smackdown Live exclusive pay-per-view this year, Backlash, she successfully outlasted five other women to become the inaugural WWE SmackDown Women's Champion.

Lynch is currently involved in a feud with the #1 Contender for her Championship, Alexa Bliss. The two are set to battle each other for the title on the November 8th edition of Smackdown from Glasgow, Scotland.
