Big drop in viewership for NXT and AEW Dynamite due to the Vice Presidential Debate
This week's NXT and AEW Dynamite episodes witnessed big drops in the viewership figures as they went up against the Vice Presidential Debate.
AEW, however, managed to continue its win streak as Dynamite drew 753,000 viewers while NXT drew 639,000 viewers. Last week's episode of AEW Dynamite brought in an average of 866,000 viewers, while NXT got 732,000 viewers.
AEW Dynamite came in at the 19th spot in the Cable Top 150 while NXT ranked at #56. When it came to the total viewership, AEW Dynamite ranked at #67 while NXT stood at the 76th spot.
It should be noted that both AEW Dynamite and NXT witnessed a -13% drop from last week's numbers. Dynamite won this week by an 18% margin.
AEW scored a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a -6% drop from last week's episode. NXT got a 0.16 rating, which was a -16% drop from the previous episode's rating.
As noted earlier, NXT and Dynamite competed with the Vice Presidential Debate, which drew 7.705 million viewers on CNN and was #1 on the Cable Top 150 with a 1.91 rating in the key 18-49 demo.
Several news networks ranked higher than usual due to the Vice Presidential Debate coverage, which led to NXT being dumped out of the top 50.
What happened this week on AEW Dynamite and NXT?
The latest episode of NXT was the first show after TakeOver 31. The segment featuring Ember Moon's return was the night's biggest moment, which set up the show's main event. The headliner was a tag team contest between Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez against the team of Rhea Riley and Ember Moon.
Kushida and Tomasso Ciampa kicked off the show with a solid match. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick's unlikely alliance picked up a win over Ever-Rise. Austin Theory did double duty this week as he first beat the newly-signed Leon Ruff before losing against Dexter Lumis.
Ridge Holland faced Danny Burch in a singles match. However, Holland suffered an unfortunate injury after the match, and he could be out for a very long time.
NXT also had the beginning of a new alliance between Xia Li and Boa, and it happened after Shotzi Blackheart beat Li in a singles contest.
AEW Dynamite aired a special episode that celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Chris Jericho being in the wrestling business. The show featured two title matches as FTR first defended the AEW Tag Team Championship against TH2.
Cody regained the TNT Championship in a brutal Dog Collar match against Brodie Lee. AEW also aired video messages for Chris Jericho sent by several wrestling legends and celebrities. Big Swole picked up a big win over Serena Deeb before the main event took center stage.
Chris Jericho and Jake Hager beat Chaos Project in the final match of a special episode. MJF hit the ring after the match for an interesting segment before the show ended with the entire roster celebrating in the ring with the 'Demo God.'
