Big E provides major update on his injury: "They're not going to clear me until that happens"
Big E’s WWE career saw an unfortunate accident that has shelved him for over two years. The New Day member provided an update on his injury in a recent interview.
Big E climbed the ladder to become one of the most successful superstars to come out of NXT. After a long wait, he became the second member of The New Day to win the WWE Championship.
On the March 11, 2022, episode of SmackDown, Big E suffered an unfortunate injury after landing on his head outside the ring during a belly-to-belly suplex attempt from Ridge Holland. He fractured his C1 vertebrae and C6 vertebrae but did not suffer any ligament or spinal cord damage.
The former WWE Champion gave a detailed update on his injury and revealed what his in-ring future looks like in a chat with Chris Vannini on Getting Over.
"Now we're at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it's not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They're not going to clear me until that happens. It's obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We'll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I'm just not in a position to be cleared quite yet," Big E said. [H/T Fightful]
The 38-year-old star got in the ring ahead of this year’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event for a Kickoff Show for a spot in front of the live crowd.
"It was cool. It was just a little hit for the countdown show. The cool part for me was, even though there weren't a ton of fans in the arena, getting some love again was very, very cool. It's nice being back. It's something that I've been doing for 15 years and it feels like a second home in many ways," Big E said. [H/T Fightful]
Even after his injury, Big E has remained a part of WWE and appeared on special shows to entertain fans. Many of his fans are praying to see the big man return to the ring someday.
