Bobby Lashley wanted to cause "racial tension" for a feud with a current WWE champion; reveals idea for controversial promo

During his time in WWE, Bobby Lashley made a controversial pitch for a promo for a potential feud with current World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The 48-year-old superstar wanted to cause "racial tension" through a promo between the two superstars.

In 2018, Lashley returned to WWE. Two years later, he joined forces with MVP to form The Hurt Business, leading to him winning the WWE Championship on two separate occasions.

Speaking on The Lame Guys podcast, Lashley discussed ideas for a promo for a feud with Gunther.

“When Gunther was rolling. There was one thing I wanted to do with him, and everybody would have been like, ‘Ohhhhh.’ If we were still The Hurt Business, I was like, ‘I want to roll up on him, and I want Gunther to say', ‘People like you don’t deserve a chance at my title'. People would have been like, ‘What did he say?’" said Lashley. [H/T: Jeremy Lambert]

Lashley further revealed how he wanted to cause "racial tension," courtesy of his controversial pitch.

"We would have toed that line. If you think about the German and these black dudes. ‘Is there a little bit of racial tension there?’ We didn’t have to go there, ‘What do you mean by ‘People like you?' He could be like, ‘Older guys in wrestling.' The crowd would have been like, ‘Uhhh, did he say that?’" added Lashley.

Bobby Lashley commented on potentially going to AEW

Bobby Lashley talked about the idea of him signing with AEW. His former Hurt Business stablemate, MVP, recently debuted in the promotion and has been working alongside Shelton Benjamin.

During the same interview, Lashley said:

"You think they have enough money for me? [laughs] MVP is great. The one thing I know with Tony Khan, and this is one thing I've seen that's really cool... fans need to understand this because sometimes they say, 'They're just getting old WWE guys.' With any show, you need your established guys to help establish some that aren't. MVP coming over brings a lot of notoriety, a fanbase, and a level starting that they can use. Some of the guys there are fantastic wrestlers; they just need to be in the ring with certain [talent]."
