Booker T praises current WWE champion’s unexpected move; compares him to former superstar
Booker T is still one of the biggest names in WWE and has been doing a phenomenal job behind the announce table. The Hall of Famer opened up about a current champion’s recent move to the company.
Ethan Page made a surprising entry into NXT when many didn’t expect it to happen. He aimed for the top right away, and Shawn Michaels put him into the NXT Championship picture.
Page didn’t waste much time and became the NXT Champion just weeks after his first appearance. The decision turned many heads, and fans were a bit doubtful at first.
Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about many AEW stars moving to WWE, including Ethan Page. He noted that The Era of Ego was taking over the company, while Adam Cole’s move to Tony Khan’s promotion didn’t serve him too well.
"Ethan Page in AEW, he really wasn't that relevant, and then coming to 'NXT,' man, the guy, he's a star," Booker said. "I mean everybody knows Ethan Page right now, he's a guy that's doing a hell of a job. Then you've got guys who, let's just say, for instance, Adam Cole. Adam Cole in WWE, in 'NXT,' he was super, super hot. I mean I had touted this guy as being the next Shawn Michaels. That's what I said, I said that, and then he goes to AEW, gets lost in the shuffle, really don't hear a whole lot from him." (H/T Wrestling Inc.)
Booker T mentioned that Adam Cole’s bookings had taken a hit due to his injury. However, his run on NXT was phenomenal and could not be replicated in WWE’s rival promotion.
WWE could fast-track Ethan Page to the main roster
Ethan Page has made an immediate impact following his WWE arrival. Not only did he take off the title from the hottest NXT star at the time Trick Willaims, but he has also defended it successfully against multiple stars.
Page’s heel work has improved week by week, and he has all the tools to become a big name in the company. The creative team could test him in NXT with a title reign before moving him to the main roster.
It won’t be surprising to see Ethan Page on the main roster sooner rather than later. He is one of the top stars in the industry now, and the title reign could be followed by a big move.
