Brock Lesnar busting open 44-year-old legend was "pretty gruesome," recalls ex-WWE star

Eight years ago, Brock Lesnar was involved in an incident that severely injured a major WWE Superstar during a match. Recently, the former WWE star Dijak recalled the spot that caused widespread concern within the wrestling world.

At SummerSlam 2016, Randy Orton faced The Beast Incarnate in a match that was nearly 15 years in the making. Lesnar dominated the contest, delivering numerous suplexes to The Viper. After a failed F-5 attempt, The Conqueror removed his gloves and unleashed a series of vicious elbow strikes to Randy Orton's head.

The strikes opened a deep cut on the 44-year-old legend's forehead, causing a significant amount of blood. The referee eventually stopped the match, awarding Brock Lesnar the victory by TKO.

In an interview with CBS Sports' Shakiel Mahjouri on SHAK Wrestling, Dijak opened up about the incident that remains a controversial moment in WWE history. The former NXT star recalled witnessing The Beast busting open The Apex Predator at SummerSlam 2016 from close range, describing the incident as "pretty gruesome."

"I think I was about 10 feet from that happening [Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton], and it was pretty gruesome," Dijak said. [From 11:40 to 11:44]

Former WWE star comments on his heated rivalry with Brock Lesnar

Bobby Lashley and The Beast engaged in a heated rivalry between 2022 and 2023. Currently, The All Mighty is no longer with WWE, while Lesnar has been absent from television since his match with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam last year.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Bobby Lashley recently expressed his disappointment over the limited nature of his feud with Brock Lesnar.

"I wanted to do a lot more with it. I wish we could have really done the things that we could have and should have wanted to do with that. I think people could have really got sold into just us training to fight each other and some of the heat that we could have brought," he said.

Fans will have to wait and see if the 47-year-old will return to the Stamford-based promotion on the road to WrestleMania 41, with the Royal Rumble 2025 being the first major event.
